Result: Stragglers of Asia won by 26 runs
Match Report:
After losing the toss for the fourth year running, the Stragglers went into bat with James Allsop and Matt Cavanagh. The BB opening attack was young and lively. Both men battled hard until Allsop got a ball that lifted and was caught at gully. Cavanagh was well supported by Dexter and Razvi on his way to a well deserved half century. The BB bowled very tightly and scoring was not easy. After a standard long and filling lunch some quick runs were needed. Pilcher (candidate) and Shales both contributed 20s at over a run a ball. After 46 overs we declared on 183 for 9. This left BB with about 40 overs to chase the target down.
The BB got off to an extremely fast start, but some tight bowling and regular wickets from Alam (candidate) and Harmsworth dragged the game back into our favour. Then their middle order came out swinging and very quickly they found themselves on 120 for 5 in under 20 overs. However, Conway (guest) and Harmsworth, who bowled 12 unchanged for his 5 wickets, soon wrestled the game back in our favour and the BB were eventually bowled out for 157 in 24 overs. Unusually our fielding was superb. Cavanagh and Allsop combined brilliantly for a run out and Dexter got rid of their key batsman with a brilliant (eventually holding on with his knees) catch on the boundary. This was a superb all-round performance from the Stragglers.
