Result: Lost by 18 runs
Report:
Harrow chose to bat first and Messrs Hooper and Blackhurst opened the bowling for us. It was not long before the Harrow wickets began to fall regularly. Tight fielding, but mainly excellent bowling for Hooper (6-2-8-3) and then Pollock-Hill meant that Harrow found themselves at 38-5. Chopra and Sampson closed ranks and when Sampson fell Hardy came in and the run rate picked up dramatically. Chopra got in on the fun and after the allotted 35 overs Harrow had reached 171 for 6.
Stragglers, perhaps a little deflated that we’d let such an excellent position get away from us (a little) went into bat after a lovely tea in the pavilion. It was not long before Pilcher was clean bowled and Salter fell soon after. We then had a steady period with Brewster (c) supporting Cross. Cross hit an immaculate 56 and his innings should be commended. Brown rallied well and started scoring quickly, which put Harrow on the back foot. However, with no one able to support Brown it was left to Pollock Hill and Baxter to try to get us over the line. Despite some effective bludgeoning from Pollock-Hill we lost our 10th wicket with just shy of 20 required.
We retired to the Field House Club (the Harrow Wanderers clubhouse overlooking the ground) for drinks on the terrace to lick our wounds and congratulate Harrow Wanderers on a fine victory. Both sides are keen for an earlier start next year, but it is expected we will continue with limited overs.
