Sunday 26 April Stragglers of Asia vs Middleton Stoney
Result: Lost by 1 wicket
Report:
Stragglers’ season got off to a creaky start: they were soon 26 for 4. They were in need of a substantial stand. Enter Joe Cavanagh, who put on 68 with Phil McDuell. This stand proved to be over half the Stragglers’ total. Phil alone mastered the early season conditions and finished an outstanding innings with 82 off 106 balls. Tony Alderton then had his own way of prolonging the Stragglers’ innings. He finished undefeated after 41 balls faced – still nought not out.
The home team too found runs hard to come by. Stragglers were short of bowling but veterans Tony Alderton, with 5 for 29 and Tim Lerwill (4 for 47) took wickets regularly as the home team edged towards their modest target of 133. Middleton Stoney squeezed to victory with their last man in. Richard Simpson had an outstanding game for them – following 5 for 33 with 22 not out at the death.
