Match Report

On a beautiful day down in Eastbourne the Stragglers took the field in a 35 overs match. Jonathan Parker and Toby Marriot bowled well with the new ball, but were not backed up very well by the fielders, and so were unfortunate to not take early wickets. The opening pair put on for the first wickets, before Tim Lerwill bagged the first of his four wickets. Tight bowling from Tom Shrives and Tim Lerwill in the middle overs helped to peg back the Eastbourne run rate, but their Number 4 scored a quick and destructive 83. Thanks to some accurate death bowling by Parker and Marriot, we restricted them to 238 for 6 off their 35 overs.

Chasing 6 runs an over, we were confident as Jonathan Parker and Matt Cavanagh went out to open the innings. We were up with the run rate for the first 10 overs, thanks to Parker’s 46. Unfortunately the runs began to dry up thanks to some tight Eastbourne bowling. This led to a middle order collapse in the pursuit of quick runs. Despite some lusty blows from the tail end we were bowled out for 147.

Eastbourne were once again presented with the Patiala Bowl, having won by 91 runs.
