With the MM recruiting 19 in total for the game, a solid 11 took to the field (as is always the case with the MCC) just as the cloud cover was burning off. The MCC got off to a flying start, reaching 120 odd within an hour for no loss. By this point we had missed a couple of catches and we really needed to get a grip of the game.
A good draw played for the most part in scorching hot weather.
Stragglers won the toss and, predictably, batted. Jonathan Batley, recently ex-RN and also a Combined Services veteran, opened up with Caleb Kent. John, sporting his usual sleeveless sweater, apparently it wasn’t hot enough, and Caleb kicked off the run-rate nicely until John picked up a short one and dropped it gently into midwicket’s hands. Contributions were made all the way down the order without anyone making a really big score, but such were the riches of batting at my fingertips, it was probably an equitable spread of opportunities.
In complete contrast with 2012 the Stragglers of Asia vs Royal Military Academy Sandhurst fixture for 2013 was played in baking heat. Stragglers won the toss and decided to bat.
