Disappointment for the players as the match is rained off
On a beautiful late summer’s day, the Martlets were invited to bat by a nervous Stragglers‘ captain, whose bowling armoury lacked depth. In the event, the performance of the club’s bowlers, which relied on a four man attack, was truly manful.
On an overcast but warm afternoon, the Stragglers won the toss and elected to bat on a pitch tailor made for batting and offering no real assistance to the bowlers and the only real danger to the Stragglers top order seemed to be themselves.
On a beautifully sunny day, warm enough for even the horses of the estate to be persuaded to watch the day’s entertainment, Stragglers lost the toss and were unexpectedly put in to bat. Sensing some underhand skulduggery by Stage CC, skipper Asif Padhani sent in 2 left handers, Dominic Harte and Sye Razvi to open the innings and attempt to thwart the opposition’s plans.
